On August 8, the Stanford King Center on Global Development held a seminar with Bo Li, Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese (ACFROC). 

During his lecture, Bo Li focused on several key challenges currently facing the WTO, including rule-making, dispute resolution, special and differential treatment, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), industrial subsidies, intellectual property rights, and digital economy. Li presented ways to potentially reform the WTO, and shared his insights in his capacity as, simultaneously, an economist, a lawyer, and also a former policy maker in Beijing.

About the speaker:

Bo Li

Bo Li is the Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese (ACFROC). Prior to this position, he worked at the People’s Bank of China, China’s central bank. Li joined the PBOC in 2004, working in the Legal and Regulation Department as Deputy Director General (appointed 2004) and Director General (promoted January 2009) before moving to the Monetary Policy Department II as Director General in November 2009.  In 2015, Li was appointed Director General of Monetary Policy Department. Prior to joining the PBOC, Li was a practicing attorney with the New York law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell. Li holds a PhD degree in economics from Stanford University and a JD, magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School. He is a member of the Chinese and New York Bar. Li is also a member of Chinese Economists 50 Forum (CE50). He has published a number of books and academic articles.
