Social Order and Social Protection: Mechanisms and Moderators in Climate-Related Violent Conflict
The rise in global warming shows a positive relationship with the frequency and strength of violence across the world. Adler’s dissertation focuses on identifying and explaining the various moderators and mechanisms of this correlation to better understand how to mitigate the issue. It proposes to policymakers the education and solutions needed to best mitigate and lessen the effect of climate on conflict. Adler gathers and analyzes survey data, records, satellite sources and computational models to derive his conclusions.
Garrett Albistegui Adler, Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources
After six years teaching science at a public school in the Bronx, Albistegui Adler returned to the student side of the classroom. Since then he has worked to pursue research at the intersection of two fields of long-term interest: Earth systems science and international relations/security. As an interdisciplinary PhD student, Albistegui Adler is working to build facilities with cutting edge quantitative social science methods, while exploring the literature related to environmental change, comparative politics, political and economic development and the causes of violent conflict.
