Research Fellows for Faculty
Academic Year Part-Time Undergraduate Research Fellow Program
This King Center on Global Development program provides support for Stanford faculty and postdoctoral scholars to engage paid undergraduate research fellows to work on global development challenges critical for low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) as well as provide mentorship to undergraduate student fellows, who may be new to the research process.
Undergraduate research fellows must be enrolled full-time at Stanford and may work 8–10 hours per week during the academic year. Fellows are paid $19/per hour by the King Center.
King Center faculty affiliates and postdoctoral scholars may request one undergraduate research fellow for the academic year to assist with their work, and learn research basics.
The research mentor may identify a specific student to work on their project or ask the King Center to advertise the position, administer the student application process, and provide faculty with a pool of qualified applicants.
For research mentors without preidentified students, the King Center will advertise open positions prior to the start of the quarter. Applications will be sent to faculty to review approximately two weeks into the quarter. Research mentors will review applications, conduct interviews, and forward their top candidates to the King Center within a month after the start of the quarter.
The King Center manages the hiring, administration, and funding for undergraduate research fellows. Mentors are responsible for any additional research costs, such as software, equipment, research supplies, or other project-specific costs.

Eligibility
King Center faculty affiliates, postdoctoral fellows, and affiliated researchers are eligible for this program.
Clinician Educators, Clinical Professors, and Instructors are not eligible for this program.
Applying for an Academic Year Part-Time Research Fellow
Because demand for this program has historically exceeded available funding, if all available positions are allocated, additional eligible applications will be placed on a waitlist. Should additional funding become available, waitlisted research mentors will be invited to proceed with hiring.

Summer Full-Time Undergraduate Research Fellow Program
This program enables Stanford faculty to host full-time undergraduate research fellows during the summer quarter. The program provides Stanford undergraduate students with hands-on research experience addressing global development challenges in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) while supporting faculty research projects.
Preference will be given to projects that include field research, provided Stanford policies permit undergraduate student travel. Because travel policies may change, all proposals must include a meaningful campus-based or remote work plan that can be implemented if undergraduate travel is not permitted.
The King Center provides summer research fellows with a stipend that covers most program-related costs, including a financial aid supplement (if applicable), incidental expenses, as well as travel and lodging costs for approved opportunities at field sites. Faculty are responsible for any additional research expenses, such as transportation to secondary field sites, software, equipment, or other project-specific costs.Faculty may identify a specific student to work on their project or ask the King Center to advertise the position, administer the student application process, and provide faculty with a pool of qualified applicants.
Faculty without preidentified students will have their positions posted about two weeks into the winter quarter. Students who apply will have their applications sent for faculty to review approximately four weeks into the quarter. Faculty will review applications, conduct interviews, and forward their top candidates to the King Center before the end of the winter quarter.
Eligibility
Stanford faculty members who are Academic Council or University Medical Line (UML) faculty are eligible to serve as faculty mentors for this program.
King Center postdoctoral fellows, other university postdoctoral scholars, King Center affiliated researchers, Clinician Educators, Clinical Professors, and Instructors are not eligible for this program.
Applying for a Summer Full-Time Research Fellow
The King Center will review submissions and notify applicants regarding support for their proposed research fellow position by the end of January.
