
Saloni Gupta
King Center on Global Development
Saloni Gupta is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the King Center on Global Development. An applied microeconomist, she focuses on studying the development of essential higher-order skills in underserved communities, particularly in innovation and STEM fields. Having recently obtained a PhD in Economics and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, she held the esteemed NAEd/Spencer Dissertation Fellowship for the year 2023.
In her job market paper, she conducted a field experiment of a program aimed at cultivating innovation skills among school children from marginalized backgrounds in Telangana. This paper showcases successful collaboration between government and nonprofit sectors to foster these crucial skills linked to economic growth.
Gupta's upcoming endeavors include holding visiting researcher positions at Aalto University, Finland, and the Development Innovation Lab at the University of Chicago. She looks forward to assuming a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship and Education at Brown University in July 2025.
