Samiha Islam

Samiha Islam is a Predoctoral Research Fellow at the King Center on Global Development. She is an aspiring economics researcher from Bangladesh. She holds a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Dhaka. Her undergraduate thesis examined the relationship between poverty and financial inclusion, while her Master's research focused on the impact of domestic violence on children's educational outcomes.

She was awarded a research fellowship by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, during which she worked on women's empowerment in rural Bangladesh. Her research interests include development economics, health, and how gender norms influence behavior in competitive and economic settings. She has co-authored a research paper on factors associated with workplace abuse. Outside research, Islam loves collecting elephant figurines.
