Mark Duggan is The Trione Director of SIEPR and The Wayne and Jodi Cooperman Professor of Economics at Stanford. He is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and serves on the editorial board of the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy. Before coming to Stanford, Duggan was the Rowan Family Foundation Professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, where he also served as the faculty director of the Public Policy Initiative and the chair of the business economics and public policy department. Duggan has also previously served as the senior economist for health care policy at the White House Council of Economic Advisers and a fellow for the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and the Brookings Institution.

Professor Duggan's research focuses on the health care sector and the effects of government expenditure programs on individual and firm behavior. His recent research explores the effects of federal disability programs and the Affordable Care Act on the labor market. His work has been published in leading academic journals and has been featured in media outlets including The Economist, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Social Security Administration, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. He holds BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering from MIT and a PhD in economics from Harvard University.
