Contact at Work: Exposure to Political Opinions in the Brazilian Labor Market
In Brazil and other politically polarized democracies, friendships and relationships have become increasingly segregated by political opinion. Workplaces remain one of the few areas, in which people with different political opinions could interact and exchange their views. In this project, we leverage a survey of the Brazilian workforce to study three questions. First, do Brazilians discuss politics in the workplace? Second, what are the factors driving individuals' willingness to discuss politics in the workplace? Finally, to what extent is workers’ willingness to discuss politics in the workplace driven by aversion to conflict and concerns about future discrimination?
