Andrea Pedroza Tobias is a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford Impact Labs and the Department of Pediatrics in the Partnerships for Research in Child Health Lab. She holds a PhD in Global Health from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and a Master of Science in Nutrition from the National Institute of Public Health in Mexico (INSP). With a primary focus on minorities in the US and low- and middle-income countries, her goal is to generate evidence for interventions and policy recommendations aimed at improving the dietary quality of children, ultimately reducing health disparities. Currently, she employs a community-engaged approach to design nutrition interventions and policy recommendations, with the goal of reducing the consumption of ultra-processed foods at school and home to narrow the gap in health disparities.

Corporate Political Activity and the Double Burden of Malnutrition in Nepal: An Analysis of Food Industry Strategies and Policy
Nepal is facing increased rates of obesity and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) at the same time that malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies persist. The Food and Beverage Industry (F&BI) contributes to this challenge by influencing health policies and implementing strategies that shift dietary patterns toward calorie-dense, with high amounts of sugar, fat, and salt. This proposal aims to systematically examine the Corporate Political Activity (CPA) strategies employed by major F&BI entities in Nepal. Utilizing data from diverse sources and key informants, our study seeks to identify and monitor CPA to provide policy recommendations to effectively address malnutrition and prevent obesity and NCDs.
